Eating Healthier After-Dinner Desserts
Admit it, you are enticed. And who wouldn’t? The look of desserts is enticing enough, how much more if you taste them? But for some reasons, you hold yourself from sinking your teeth into one soft, succulent dark chocolate cake. You know that a bite of that rich, decadent slice wouldn’t be adequate and would wreck your hard work at the gym. And you wonder, is there any way you can eat desserts without adding a pound or two on the scale?
Well, you can and you cannot.
There isn’t a definite answer because what is effective for some may not be effective for others. Don’t be baffled if a pal can eat a whole cake for dessert and not worry about his or her weight, but you can’t even finish a half of tart without feeling the effect on the weighing scale the next day. So for us who constantly need to check our weight but still crave for desserts, let’s just try to make desserts a little healthier for us.
To start with, have a healthy meal. If you are expecting a sinfully sweet dessert later on, start with something healthy to cut your guilt feelings. If you are going to have a fattening dessert, then cut down the calories on your meal.
Pile up your desserts with organic ingredients. Instead of all bad-for-your sweets, add some fruits to balance the nutritious factors. But if you are purchasing instead of baking, then read look for those with healthy ingredients and search those with “low fat,” low calorie,” no calorie” etc. on the tags.
Have your dessert in little sizes. Have you seen those stylish desserts served at restaurants and bakeries? They are like the Mini-Me’s of a whole cake but they are actually less than a regular piece. They look great, though, and still very appetizing. Try to eat yours in those petite sizes. They still taste the same, but you are just eating an average portion.
And lastly, try to eat decadent desserts during special functions only. Think of it this way, you are just making a dessert more special by consuming them during special days. If you eat them daily, as unbelievable as this may sound, you might lose interest in them because they are not “off-limits” to you anymore. Eating the sweetest sweets during special functions doesn’t mean going passing over desserts totally every meal. Sweet desserts can be fruits in parfait or yogurt. Still has the goodness of a dessert without the guilt feelings.
Just like a good tome, a meal isn’t done without a sweet closing. You may have just had the heartiest feast in your life or the not-so-special dinner, but a meal isn’t complete without desserts.
