Monthly Condo Rental

Should I buy a condo or just rent an apartment?
I’m moving to Honolulu for school and I’m going to need to find a place to live. I’ll have about $10,000 in cash when I move there and will be getting loans to pay my monthly rent. I’m hoping to get some kind of scholarship for tuition. Rentals in Honolulu for a 1 BR average about 800-1000 for something not too fancy. I’ve seen really nice condos by campus going for only $63,000. I was thinking of putting some of the money I’ll have with me as a down payment and then use loans, scholarship money to pay rent. Only thing is that the program is only 18 months and I may move to Japan afterwards. I would want to rent the place out, but don’t know how difficult that would be. Basically I’ll be spending about $20k in renting or be able to buy something for more, but own it. What should I do?
I’d say rent. If you can find condo’s for 63,000 in honolulu then the area is probably not in high demand… Which means you might not find renters. Then again I don’t really know much, just speculating.
