Moving Company Estimates

How can I weigh my couch using a bathroom scale?
I’m sending a couch to a friend and need to know how much it weighs for the people shipping it. I’m not interested in average weights or estimates online (especially not from a moving company that gets more if they say it’s heavier).
There are ways to do this – formulas… weighing parts and multiplying… it’s just so hard to search for this online.
Thanks!
Find a friend with a second scale.
Weigh yourself on your scale, have them weigh themselves using their scale.
Place the scales on a HARD surface far enough apart for the following:
Each of you pick up the couch at one end and get on your respective scales.
Add the two amounts. Subtract from this your two weights above. This is the weight of the couch.
This assumes you can pick up the couch and still see the scale readouts. This also assumes you have friends.
If you don’t have friends, you don’t need a couch? Or are you weighing it so you can ship it to your only friend?
The one-person solution involves lumber and muscle. Cut two pieces of 2×4 to rest under each pair of couch legs. Cut a third piece of 2×4 to connect the exact centre of the above two pieces, so that you have formed a letter “H”. Mark the centre of this third, longer piece.
Getting the scale under this whole mess is the trick. it has to be balanced on the exact centre. Use a level if necessary. Don’t forget to weigh the lumber (and the crane)
separately and subtract it to get the weight of the couch alone.
