Repossessions and Selling Homes Quickly
The recession hit a lot of home owners badly but the good news is that the further into the year we get the closer recovery is regardless of how small the steps are. During the early months of recession in 2009 the number of homes being taken from families was staggering, however the rate has dropped in the past few months as the market begins to pick up again.
Despite the positive news and repossession rates decreasing the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) have stated that nearly 12,000 homes still face repossession. There is a lot of advice available for homeowners who are struggling to keep up their payments, particularly since unemployment is at one of its highest points the threat of losing a home is high for many.
When the rate of repossession was at its highest in the early months of recession a number of property firms set up services that would allow people to take advantage of a quick sale, effectively ending their mortgage payments and releasing equity to tackle other debts they may have. However as with any other opportunity a number of unscrupulous firms were also set up that gave homeowners a less than fair deal.
The quick sale companies provided homeowners with a large amount money in a few short days so that they could deal with their debt problems easily and downscale their living arrangements accordingly. There was the option to sell a house quickly and rent it back from the company or keep the cash and move on.
With the initiatives governments have used to reduce the number of home repossessions such as lowering interest rates and VAT there are still signs that other periods of repossession are likely since the economy has not yet fully recovered. There may be setbacks in the future growth and stability of the economy that can result in another difficult period for homeowners.
